Subsequent to playing with acclaim on “Tuesday,” iLoveMakonnen has subsided into a more agreeable path in the left-field of Atlanta rap, returning to the room rudiments of his initial material. On his new synergistic EP with Ronny J, he goes wherever from passionate balladry to dim, boisterous freestyles. “Kick It,” the end track on the venture, is one of the heavier tracks on the task, including some huge bassy synths that could without much of a stretch shake an auto. The rhymes are genuinely off-the-arch, as Makonnen normally stops, falters, and so forth as he gives the words a chance to course through him. It gives the melody a passionate earnestness that hits its pinnacle when he starts to praise his companions in the second half. “I wasn’t glad for what I did/Man I had fuckin’ scowls/I lost such huge numbers of fuckin’ companions/I covered them in the ground/I’ve been crying, I’ve been crying such huge numbers of fuckin’ years,” he raps. This is more or less crude.
